Our Story
Chabad of Geneseo was established in 2025 by Rabbi Laivy and Goldy Mochkin, to serve the Jewish students of SUNY Geneseo. Chabad of Geneseo is a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of affiliation or prior level of knowledge. Its sole purpose is to create a warm, welcoming environment to explore and experience Judaism's warm and relevant spiritual inspirations in a non-judgmental and inviting atmosphere.
Chabad of Geneseo is a local, independent and financially self-supporting entity. Every dollar that we receive comes from the generosity of people like you. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and your donations are fully tax deductible.
Meet the Mochkin's

Rabbi Laivy and Goldy Mochkin moved to Geneseo and founded Chabad of Geneseo in 2025.
Prior to moving to Genseo, Rabbi Laivy grew up in Rochester before pursuing studies in Jewish thought and practice in England and France and received his rabbinical ordination in New York City. His infectious optimism and joyful personality drives his commitment and dedication to his community.
Goldy was born and raised in Brooklyn and is a passionate educator, teaching classes for women, as well as educating her own 4 children. She also has exquisite taste which shines through all the events at Chabad she plans.
